Student Code of Conduct

The Handcraft Tailor Academy Code of Conduct
All students are to read and familiarise themselves with the Student Code of Conduct
Students are bound by this Code even if they do not agree with its provisions or even if they fail to make themselves aware of its existence
The student Code of Conduct has been created to protect, preserve and promote certain basic principles and standards of behaviour. These include, but are not limited to equal opportunity, freedom of expression, and respect for the rules and standards created by the academy.
The mission of The Handcraft Tailor Academy is to transform lives and societies through education, research and innovation. By registering for a programme with The HTA, a student undertakes to behave in a manner consistent with the achievement of this mission. This includes accepting the rights and responsibilities of membership of the University community. The purpose of this Student Code of Conduct and Discipline is to facilitate the maintenance of a safe and supportive environment for all members of this community.
The Handcraft Tailor Academy and The HTA Accommodations Code of Conduct aims to create a safe environment involved based on respect and tolerance for all members included in the academy, the community and its neighbours.
The Academy reserves the right to invoke any necessary disciplinary actions if a student is to violate the law of Ireland in any way. For any actions committed within and/or outside the Academy overstepping any boundaries of acceptable behaviour, students must accept the consequences.
The following policies apply to any and all students involved within the academy who is on or off the property:

Students are expected to familiarise themselves with this Code. Students are bound by this Code even if they do not agree with its provisions or even if they fail to make themselves aware of its existence

Disorderly conduct constitutes to lewd, indecent, or obscene behaviour. Harassing includes, but is not limited to verbal or written actions that are abusive to any members involved within the Academy. This also includes any conduct which threatens or endangers the physical and emotional health or safety of involved parties

Physical harassment includes, but is not limited to any kind of inappropriate touching of any members involved within the Academy, or any similar conduct that threatens or endangers the physical and emotional health or safety of a person

False allegations includes, but is not limited to intentionally filing and/or sharing knowingly false information about another member within the Academy is strictly prohibited

Intentional vandalism, damage, destruction or defacement of either the Academy or student accommodations is strictly prohibited. In the event that this occurs, the student responsible will be expected to cover any and all costs to fix any damages. Students will also be expected to respect the surrounding properties of the academy and student accommodations

The use, possession or distribution of drugs and narcotics is strictly prohibited at all times

The possession of any kind of weapon is forbidden within the academy and student accommodations

Students will be required to fill out and return the Emergency Contact Form and return this to the Academy. This form is completely confidential and will be terminated once the student leaves at the end of his/her course

Students are under no circumstances to behave in a way that might endanger the health and safety of themselves or any beings involved. This means creating an environment which endangers or threatens others, or their property, create a health hazard or nuisance. This includes, but is not limited to physical and sexual assault, bullying, and/or physical violence. Intentionally inflicting bodily harm upon any living being, and/or taking a reckless course of action that will cause harm. In doing so can result in a two day suspension. Repeat offenders will be expelled and thus will not be able to complete the course with no chance to re-join

In the event a student must miss class or be late, notice must be given via verbally, through WhatsApp/SMS (+353 87 450 6114) or email (info@handcrafttailor.com) within 12 – 24 hours in advance or as soon as possible before the student knows he/she will miss class

Students are not to miss a minimum three class days due to the rigorous and intense nature of the courses that progress quickly. Any missed classes must be made up in their own time

Students should always show good manners and respect to all members within the Academy. Disrespect and disobedience will not be tolerated

Students should dress in a clean and professional manner (casual/nice). Students are expected to conduct themselves in a dignified manner within the Academy as well as outside as they are a representation of the Academy

Students are responsible for their own property at all times. The Academy and student accommodations do not accept responsibility for the loss or damages done to a student’s private property. It is advised that students properly label belongings and that non-essential valuables not be brought into the classroom

No personal romances within the classroom

Students are allowed guests at the accommodations but must receive permission from Mary before making plans. This is to ensure the safety of the student, those around them, and the surrounding property. Breaking this rule could result in expulsion. Please contact Mary: +353 87 988 2390 or mary.duffy@live.ie

The Academy and student accommodations are two separate businesses. Any requests/complaints within the academy must be directed to Rory Duffy via email

The student accommodations reserves the right to request a student to move rooms if necessary

Students are requested to keep work benches and areas within the classroom neat and organised

Students are requested to keep common areas and rooms clean and organised

Students are not to remove property belonging to The HTA without permission as this could result in lost/broken items which will result in a recovery fee from the student

Students are strictly prohibited from entering any farmland/farmyard areas surrounding the accommodations and the academy at all times

Students are strongly advised against renting a car for the duration of their stay as there will be no parking provided within the accommodation or the academy

If students wish to make use of the bicycles on loan from The HTA, they must first sign a waiver
-
Students should have medical (travellers) insurance which will cover any emergencies/necessities while travelling abroad. Possible sources for this are:

In-house accommodation rules

You will be provided with two keys – one for the bedroom and one for the back door.

Please lock the back door and turn off any lights before leaving or going to bed

When leaving after finishing your course, please remember to return these keys

Guests are allowed but students must receive permission from Mary before any travel plans are made

Please keep showers to a maximum of 10 minutes

Please keep your bedroom and communal areas tidy (kitchen, living area, bathrooms, etc.)

Any items going into the recycling bin must be cleaned out before disposal

Each room is provided with a high visibility vest. It is strongly advised that students wear these when walking on the roads to ensure safety and visibility

Students are provided with a shopping trolley to take when grocery shopping to make travel easier from the crossroads to the accommodation – please take care when using as these are property of The Handcraft Tailor Academy

There is a change of bed clothes in the bottom drawer of your dresser. After changing your sheets, please leave bed clothes to be laundered on the chair by the back door

Nomi (short for Nomad) is the resident cat and is friendly but is an outdoor cat. Please be sure to close up any windows and doors to the kitchen when leaving the premises.
He may also sound like he’s starving, but he gets fed twice a day via automatic feederIf giving treats to him (*feed at your own risk*), absolutely do not give him:
- Bones of any kind
- Grapes, raisins, plums or cherries
- Onion, garlic or mushrooms
- Raw meat, fish and eggs
- Dairy (cats are lactose intolerant – yes, this includes cow’s milk)
- Chocolate, caffeine and sugary snacks
- Alcohol. He’s been sober going on eight years
Bicycle waiver
BICYCLE USE WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY
The Handcraft Tailor Academy and Accommodation
This Waiver and Release of Liability ("Agreement") is entered into between The Handcraft Tailor
Academy and Accommodation ("The HTA") and the undersigned student ("the Student").
1. Assumption of Risk
The Student understands and agrees that while the Academy may make bicycles available for use, such bicycles are provided solely as a convenience, and use is entirely voluntary and at the Student's own risk.
2. Use of Bicycles Off Academy Property
The bicycles are intended solely for use within the boundaries of Academy property. Should the Student choose to use any bicycle provided by the Academy on public roads or any location outside Academy grounds, the Student does so entirely at their own risk and accepts full responsibility for
their own health, safety, and well-being.
3. Roadworthiness and Compliance
It is the sole responsibility of the Student to ensure that any bicycle borrowed from the Academy is roadworthy and compliant with all relevant local and national laws, including but not limited to the Road Traffic Acts, and applicable regulations under Irish law.
4. Safety Equipment
The Academy recommends, but does not require or provide, the use of safety equipment, including helmets, high-visibility garments, and bicycle lights.
Where such equipment is provided by the Academy, it is offered "as is" with no warranty or guarantee as to its condition, suitability, or effectiveness. It is the Student's responsibility to inspect, update, repair, or replace any such equipment prior to use.
5. Release of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Student hereby waives, releases, and discharges the Academy, its owners, directors, employees, and agents from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, liabilities, losses, or damages, including but not limited to those arising from injury, accident, death, or damage to property, which may arise from or relate in any way to the use of a bicycle provided by the Academy, particularly when used off Academy premises.
6. Acknowledgment of Understanding
The Student confirms they have read and understood this Agreement, and that they accept full responsibility for their actions and safety while using a bicycle provided by the Academy.
Student code of conduct (online)
Students enrolling in The Handcraft Tailor Academy Online Course(s) assume to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the The HTA in-house courses functioning as an educational system. As a result, policies, procedures and regulations have been developed to guarantee each student’s freedom to learn and protect their rights. Students who fail to comply with The HTA Online regulations may be dismissed at any time.

Harassment of any type will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to: race, colour, creed, religion, gender, national/ethnic origin, age, handicap, or sexual orientation.
Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to sexual advances, requests for sexual favours or unwelcome contact, sexual innuendos, use of obscene language, and telling of sexual jokes.
Any form of harassment is strictly against The Handcraft Tailor Academy’s (Online and In-house) policy and will result in disciplinary action. -
Students are allowed to record the sessions. Any and all recordings made are for personal use only. Recordings are not to be shared on any on/offline platforms without permission of the Academy. In the result that this rule is disobeyed, legal action may be taken.

Students may not under any circumstances, without the Academy’s prior written consent, use the name The Handcraft Tailor Academy in any form or use any symbol, logo or graphic used by or associated with Rory Duffy Handcraft Tailor Academy. This includes, but is not limited to names, symbols, logos or graphics that may be similar to that of the Academy.

Course fees must be paid before the start of the course. Course fees are non-refundable. In the event that a student has enrolled for a course and cannot participate at that time, a deferment will be allowed. The amount of time of the deferment is up to one year, but is subject to change.

Dishonesty in the scholarly and/or professional environment is unacceptable. This includes forms of fraud, plagiarism and cheating.
